Biography

Thomas Brown married Hannah Lee, daughter of Walter & Mary (Unknown) Lee, on 8 Mary 1686/7 at Springfield, Hampden, MA [1][2]

Thomas Brown had children Thomas (1688), Samuel (1692), Hannah (1694), Sarah (1700) and Keziah (1707). The first two children were recorded at Westfield (part of Springfield that became independent in 1689), the last one at Colchester.

Thomas's son Samuel, also of Colchester, Conn., was appointed guardian of Thomas's youngest daughter Keziah after Thomas's death in 1717.[3]

Research Notes

Date of Thomas birth is uncertain

  • born Oct 31 1655 in Middletown, Middlesex, CT IF he is child of Nathaniel Brown and Eleanor Watts
  • born 1668 in Westfield, Hampden, MA

Parents of Thomas are uncertain. Marriage records do not state his parents.

  • Source attached to this profile [4] states that Nathaniel Browne and Eleanor Watts son 'Thomas Browne', b, the last of Oct 1655, Middletown, CT died young. It looks like he was baptized with siblings after his father died, but there are multiple later mentions of Eleanor's children after death of her father, as well as her 2nd husband, but they do not mention Thomas.
  • Following was included in this wiki profile, based on parents being the above Nathaniel and Eleanor
Thomas Brown, son of Nathaniel, was born in October 1655 in Middletown, Connecticut. He had elder siblings Hannah and Nathaniel, and younger brothers John and Benoni.
Thomas's father died in 1658, when Thomas was almost three years old. His mother remarried Jasper Clements, and in January 1668/9, when Thomas was 12, he and his four siblings, named and identified as the children of "sister Clements," were baptized, shortly after his mother joined the Middletown church [4]
Thomas's brothers and sister stayed in Middletown, where they appear together in various land records starting in 1689. But Thomas settled in Springfield, Mass., where Nathaniel Brown had lived briefly after marrying; perhaps Thomas inherited his father's rights as a Springfield townsman.

Brown-71979 and Brown-26572 appear to represent the same person because: Bio has same wife, marriage, and children. same death date
This Thomas's family has often been mixed up with the Thomas Browns of Stonington, Conn. Their genealogy is here: https://archive.org/stream/browngenealogyof03brow#page/n7/mode/2up
