Maternal line mitochondrial DNA test-takers:
A Fortunatus Webb of Harris Co. (who married Malinda "Lina" Almond, presumed daughter of John and Ann Suttles Almond) was admr of the estate of a "Charlotte Suttles" on or about 6 September, 1841, in Harris County Georgia. The 1842 Harris Co. tax digest shows him paying tax on land obtained in the 1832 Cherokee Land Lottery by this William Suttles for his Revolutionary War service.
This Charlotte Suttles also had earlier owned land in DeKalb (now Fulton) County Georgia. She was almost certainly an unmarried daughter of William and Margaret Harbin Suttles. I have estimated her probable birth year as circa 1772.
Moreover, that Ann Suttles Almond was probably also another daughter of William and Margaret, especially given that at least one living descendant has informed me that she is an autosomal match to known Wm. & Margaret descendants.
Published research by Dr. Michael Ports (a descendant and a personal acquaintance), a thoroughly expert and professional researcher, has cast considerable doubt on the Revolutionary War record attributed to this William Suttles. Dr. Ports believes (and I concur) that said William Suttles cannot reliably be proved to be the same person as the 'William Suttle' of the NC Revolutionary War records, and that most likely this William Suttles merely served as part of some as yet unknown NC militia unit. But this is unproven at the moment. I'll try to find a link to Dr. Ports' work.
Also, there is not a single historical record to my knowledge which gives a middle name of 'Ann' for his wife Margaret Harbin. Please remove that name.
