Biography

David Erskine is a member of Clan Erskine.

David Montagu Erskine (2nd Baron Erskine of Restormel Castle) was born in 1775 and baptised on 21 Sep 1875 at Speldhurst, Kent. He was the son of Thomas Erskine (1st Baron Erskine of Restormel Castle) and his wife Frances Moore.

He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Erskine of Restormel Castle, co. Cornwall on 17 November 1823.

He died on 19 March 1855 at Butler's Green, Sussex, England. He was buried at Cuckfield, Sussex, England.

Education

David Montagu Erskine was educated between 1787 and 1792 at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1797 with a Master of Arts Degree.

Career

David Erskine was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1802 entitled to practice as a barrister. He was Envoy to Washington between 1806 and 1810. He held the office of Member of Parliament for Portsmouth between February 1806 and October 1806. He was Envoy to Stuttgart between 1824 and 1828. He was Envoy to Munich between 1828 and 1843. He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.

• 2. On 29 July 1843 at Brighton, Sussex, England David was married to his second wife Anne Bond Travis, daughter of John Travis.

• 3. On 21 December 1852 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England David was married to his third wife Anna Cunninghame Graham the daughter of William Cunninghame Cunninghame Graham (7th of Gartmore).
