Martin/Malen Heard married my 3xs great grandmother's sister Ruthy Briggs. He was a sibling to John, Byram, Jesse and Jeremiah Early Heard. The Jesse listed above may have been a brother or father. Father Jesse died in Marion Co TN before 1840.

Am also tracking other surnames which seem to have migrated together. Some came to Marion Co from White, Grainger and Bledsoe Co TN. From there they went to Gasconade Co and Ozark Co MO as well as Dallas Co AR. Names include Shockley, Briggs, Phelps, McKinney and Haskins.

Updates Jesse Heard (the one who married Margaret Elizabeth Hase/Hays).

Erich Heard had acquired two Power of Attorneys from Jesse Heard, who said he was of Bledsoe Co., TN, and a former soldier of the War of 1812. He gave POA to William Chisum on 22 Jul 1816 to collect monies due Jesse for service in Capt. Wm. Chisum's Company [known to be of Russell's Battalion]. He also gave Power of Attorney to Asahel Rawlings on 4 Feb 1817 to collect for his services in Stephen's Company (known to be Chiles' Battalion). In both cases, Jesse said his service was in Mounted units.

Wm. Chisum was his officer and Asahel Rawlings was a prominent citizen of Hamilton Co., TN, having served on the County Court, probably a lawyer. So, we know the associates were of a Jesse Heard of Bledsoe Co., TN and this would be 177- Jesse. Thus, we have War of 1812 Service for 177- Jesse. I knew there was a Jesse Heard/Hurd who served in Mounted Infantry and/or Mounted Gunmen units from East Tenn, but I didn't know for sure the Jesse was from Bledsoe Co., TN until Erich sent the Powers of Attorney. [Asahel Rawlings and Elisha Rogers both married Thurman sisters, so they were brothers-in-law. A website says that Elisha Rogers is a descendant of Doswell Rogers, but I don't know what the proof of that is. One Doswell Rogers is married into another branch of the Heards, as you know.]
