Birth

Alpheus Dwight, the Seth and Joanna Dwight, was born in Somers, Tolland, Connecticut on 7 April 1760. ^{[1] [2]}

Private Alpheus Dwight served with Col Enos' Regiment (1778), Connecticut Militia during the American Revolution.

Military Service

Enlisting on 29 June 1778, Alpheus served as a Private in the American Revolutionary War. ^{[3] [4]}

Alpheus Dwight served under Capt. Robinson's Co. in May, 1778 in Col. Enos' Regiment at East Windsor, Conn. He went to White Plains where he remained about six weeks. He then went to West Point for six months. While stationed at White Plains his tent was struck by lightning and paralyzed him. "While in the service of the United States, I was so much injured by 'electric fluid' as to render me incapable of serving my term of enlistment and my system was so affected by the shock that my health was permanently impaired". ^[5]

Alpheus married Phanna Prentice on 1 January 1784. ^[6] They had five children:

Death

Alpheus Dwight and his wife are buried in Elmwood Cemetery in the village of Adams, Jefferson County, N.Y. Alpheus Dwight lived at Somers, Conn. for about 15 years after the war. He then went to Wilmington, Vermont where he resided for 33 years. He came to Jefferson County about 1834. His children were: Palatiah, b. January 14, 1785; Alpheus, Jr., b. June 10, 1787; Lyman, b. November 3, 1789. All children were born at Somers, Conn. ^[14]
