Biography

Mary Fortescue was the daughter of Sir John Fortescue of Ponsbourne, near Hatfield, Hertfordshire, and his wife, Alice Boleyn, the daughter of Sir Geoffrey Boleyn.[1][2]

Mary married three times:

  • John Stonor, died 1499, son and heir of Sir William Stonor and his third wife, Anne Neville;[1]
  • Anthony Fettiplace, died 23 December 1510,[1]
  • Sir Thomas Englefield (1455-1514);[1]

Mary and Anthony had at least five children:

  • Alexander
  • Ursula
  • Giles
  • Alice
  • William

Dame Mary Englefield, widow, made her last will and testament on 14 September in 37 Henry VIII [1545], which proved 27 November 1546, in which she requested to be buried in the church of Our Lady at Swinbrook where her husband (Anthony) was buried.[1]
