Biography
Elizabeth was born about 1491 in England, the daughter of Sir Henry Clifford, the "Shepherd Lord", and his wife Anne St John.
She married first Sir Ralph Bowes, Sheriff of Durham, son of Sir Ralph Bowes, Sheriff of Durham and Margery Conyers, circa 1509. They had three children:[1]
- 1) Sir George
- 2) Margery, wife of Sir Ralph Eure;
- 3) Anne, wife of Sir Christopher Metcalfe
Elizabeth married second after April 1516, William Tonge. They had 2 children:[2]
- 1) George
- 2) Isabel, wife of Robert Thirkeld
