Sir Henry Clifford, 1st Earl Cumberland, 11th Lord Clifford was born in 1493, the son of Sir Henry Clifford, the "Shepherd Lord", and his wife Anne St John.
He first married in about 1510 Margaret Talbot, daughter of Sir George Talbot, 7th Earl Shrewsbury, 3rd Earl Waterford and Anne Hastings.[1]
Henry married second in about 1516 Margaret Percy, daughter of Sir Henry Algernon Percy, 9th Earl Northumberland, Lord Poynings, Constable of Knaresborough Castle and Katharine Spencer.[1]
Created Earl of Cumberland by letters patent, dated 18 June, 1525, K.G., 1532, 24 Henry VIII.
