Colonel John Blakeney born in 1703, the son of Col. Robert Blakeney and Sarah Ormsby.[1] '
He married Grace Persse, daughter of Henry Persse and Mary Stratford, with whom he had six children.
He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Galway in 1727. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Galway in 1727 and 1738. From 1727 until his death, Colonel John Blakeney held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Athenry. He gained the rank of Colonel in the Galway Dragoons. He purchased Abbert, Monivea, County Galway, on 14 May 1734.
He died on July 21, 1747.
