Biography
Lieutenant Hugh McGavock served with Clark's Illinois Regiment, Virginia State Troops during the American Revolution.
Hugh McGavock is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A076910.
Hugh McGavock was born 25 September 1761, died 2 Apr 1844 in Wythe County, Virginia.
In the Revolutionary War, he raised his own Regiment in SW Virginia in 1779, went to Albermarle County and met up with Col. Joseph Crockett's Regiment of the Virginia State Line. During 1780 he was promoted to Quartermaster of the Regiment. Hugh's regiment was discharged after the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. [1]
Hugh married Nancy Kent, a niece of Col. Joseph Crockett.
Capt Hugh McGavock died 2 April 1844 and was buried at McGavock Cemetery, Max Meadows, Wythe County, Virginia.[2]
