Biography

John Hull was born about 18 December 1624 in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, England.[1][2][3][4] He was the son of Robert Hull, a blacksmith, and Elizabeth Storer, widow of Paul Storer.[1][2][3][4]

At age 11, John and his parents emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They departed Bristol, England on 28 September 1635 aboard the ship George. They arrived in Boston on 7 November.[1][2][3][4]

John married Judith Quincy on 11 May 1647 in Boston. She was the daughter of Edmund Quincy and Judith Pares Paine.[1][2][3] John and Judith had the following children[2]:

  1. Elizabeth Hull, b. 23 Jan 1653 (twin), d. 1 Feb 1653 as an infant
  2. Mary Hull, b. 23 Jan 1653 (twin), d. 31 Jan 1653 as an infant
  3. John Hull, b. 3 Nov 1654, d. 14 Nov 1654 as an infant
  4. Hannah Hull b. 14 Feb 1658, d. 1717 m. Samuel Sewall
  5. Samuel Hull, b. 1 Aug 1661, bap. 4 Aug 1661, d. 20 Aug 1661 as an infant

He was well known as a merchant, goldsmith, silversmith and a minter of coins for the Massachusetts Bay Colony.[3][5] He is sometimes called the "Mint-Master" or the "Silversmith".[3][5]

John died on 1 October 1683.[2][3] He was buried in the Granary Burying Ground, Boston, Massachusetts on 5 October 1683.[2]

Records of Francis Higginson Atkins has John being born 1626 and passing 1695.[6]
