Biography

John Rusco immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Origin

John Ruscoe and various spellings: Rusco, Roscoe

Note: "Ruscoe" is the spelling used by Robert C Anderson in his Great Migration series.

John was born "say" 1624 at Billericay, Great Burstead, Essex, England, a son of William Ruscoe and his first wife, Rebecca Unknown.[1][2] [3]

Immigration

William and his wife Rebecca sailed aboard the Increase with four of their children (Sarah aged 9, Mary or "Marie," aged 7, Samuel aged 5, and William aged 1) aboard the Increase in 1635.[4][3] Sons, Nathaniel and John, were not listed as passengers aboard the Increase, but we have records of their presence in the colonies.[1] The family settled first at Cambridge but removed to Hartford, Connecticut by 1639.[1] From there, Norwalk, Connecticut in 1654 and finally Jamaica, Long Island, New York in 1665.[1]

Marriage

John married on 2 January 1650/1 at Hartford, to Rebecca Beebe, [3] daughter of John Beebe, the 1650 immigrant to Connecticut.[2][1][5][6][7]

Property and Positions

John lived in Hartford until 1651, when he became one of the fourteen original proprietors of Norwalk, Connecticut, where he witnessed the will of Richard Seamer in 1655.[5] In 1673, there is a record of John living in Norwalk.[8]

John Roscoe died intestate.[5] Inventory of his estate was taken on 20 Nov 1702 at Norwalk, Fairfield County, Colony of Connecticut.[5]
