"One of the most prominent men in early New York", mayor in 1682. (Totten, p. 138). He also for a time had title to the Manor of Fordham.

Will, notes on the abstract of

Manhattan, NY 28 Nov 1684 Lib 19b page 135. Proved 28 April 1685 (Totten p. 137) Joint will of Cornelis Steenwyck in ill heath, wife Margareta Reimers in good health. He leaves 1/2 of his estate to her and other to his sister Jannettie wife of John Van Gooten who reside in Harlem, Holland and to his half brother Jacob Maurits on his mother's side and Annettie Maurits, widow of Dr Wilhelminus Van Niewenhuysen also his half-sister on his mother's side. Inventory of his estate taken 20 July 1686 included a house and lot in Whitehall and Bridge Streets, NY, same east of the Fort, a garden on the north of Bridge Street, a strip of ground in the Broadway, one half of a farm lying over the Fresh water, a farm on Staten Island at Smoakers Point, a tract of land in Bergen, New Jersey, plus jewellery, 389 gallons of rum from Barbadoes, total 14 pages of items, totalling a value of 4,382 pounds.
