Samuel Billings, born about 1718 at Preston, Connecticut, was a son of Joseph Billings & Comfort (Fairbanks) Billings. [Sarah (Larrabee) Billings, the second wife of Joseph Billings was his stepmother.]
He married on 14 Oct 1744, at Montville, Connecticut, Grace Miner, daughter of Joseph & Sarah (Tracy) Miner, and widow of Benjamin Miner. Their children were Matthew, Benjamin & John.
Samuel Billings died at the Battle of Groton Heights defending Fort Griswold, New London, Connecticut, against British attack on 6 Sep 1781. [1]
He had served with Col William Ledyard's Co at Fort Griswold, Conn. [2][3]

Update to the previous message: Sarah Larrabee was probably his step-mother, not his birth mother, because since Samuel was born about 1718, at that time Joseph Billings was still married to his first wife Comfort Fairbanks (incorrectly published as Comfort Denison). Comfort died in 1740, after which he married Sarah Larrabee as his 2nd wife.
Also, since this Samuel was killed at the Ft. Griswold battle, his death date was 6 September 1781, thus is herewith changed.
