Descendant
Descendant of PGM Migrant Henry Kingman.

Henry was born in 1701. He was the son of Henry Kingman and Bethiah Howard. [1]

Lewis Kingman, writing in 1907, said:

Their (Henry and Bethia's) son Henry, born in 1701, concluded to leave the ancestral home. He went north by east about 4 miles .... He located about a mile from the center of Brockton on what is now Summer Street...Fifty years ago (c1760) this was called the Seth Kingman place. Henry Kingman came here in 1725 and was splitting fence rails when he nearly cut off one leg. The doctor wanted to amputate it but he would not consent to that. He saved his leg in spite of the doctor, it knitted together and healed, so that afterwards he was an officer in the army against the French and the Indians with two good legs.[2]

He married Mary Allen in 1726 and they had 7 children. She died in 1740 [3] after which he married Abigail White.[4][5]

Henry died in 1775 in Bridgewater.[6]

Probate

The will of Henry Kingman of Bridgewater, gent., was dated 11 September 1775 and proved on 6 November 1775 in Plymouth. He mentions his wife Abigail, and his children, Matthew Kingman (executor), Henry Kingman, Seth Kingman, Benjamin Kingman, Jane Gurney, Ann Keith, and Submit Kingman, and his grandchildren, Benjamin Pettingale, and Mary Pettingale His inventory was taken on 21 November 1775 in Bridgewater. [7]

From Bradford Kingman's Descendants of Henry Kingman:

Henry was a lieutenant in the militia, and resided in the West Parish of Bridgewater, from whence he removed to the North Parish (now Brockton) and settled on the tract of land afterwards occupied by the late Seth Kingman, on what is now Summer Street, otherwise known as the "Kingman neighborhood." He was the first of the name in the early settlement of the North Parish.—See the Kingman monument in Union Cemetery, Brockton.[8]

Henry was a direct patrilineal great grandson of Henry Kingman who emigrated to America from England in 1634-5. (view the relationship.)

  • Y-chromosome DNA test matching confirms that Gerald Kingman (FTDNA kit #214925, YSearch ID YUH8Z, and mitoYDNA Kit T10826) and John Kingman (FTDNA kit #N145956, YSearch ID KFTAS, and mitoYDNA Kit T10429) most likely share a direct patrilineal ancestor in a genealogical time frame. Their results match on 33 out of 37 markers. Family Tree DNA estimates the probability that Gerald and John share a common ancestor within the last 16 generations is 78%, and within the last 20 generations is 91%. No MRCA has yet been determined as John's patrilineal line currently terminates with Henry Kingman (1594-1667) who emigrated from England to Massachusetts in 1634/5 and is said to be of Frome, Somerset, and Gerald's patrilineal line currently terminates with George Kingman (1701-1748) of Farrington Gurney, Somerset, and probably extends to John Kingman born c1640 in Frome, Somerset.
