Biography

George P. Chanaberry (Channabery, Shanaberry)^[1] was born in Strassburg, Germany^[2] (but the exact location is unknown)^[3]

In 1810, George Shanberry (indexed as Lessenberry) was in Prince George County, Virginia. Yet, also, a Peter Shemberger was in Moore County, North Carolina. Then in 1820, a Peter Stenberger was in Mason County, Virginia (which was later West Virginia). But by 1830 (the first available census for Upper Northeast Tennessee), George P. Straneberry (George P. Saneberry) was in Knox County, Tennessee. And again in 1840, as Geo P. Shanerberry, and finally, in 1850, as George P. Shanaberry.^{[4] [5] [6]}

George P. Channaberry died sometime before 16 Jan 1857.^[7]

It is reported that he married Mrs. Mary Epes (Epps), but a record is not currently found, although a J. D. Epps was a witness in a part of the estate settlement.^[7] It is also reported that he married Pittsburg-Thompson, widow of John Thompson in Amherst, Virginia.

Research Notes

-- The middle name of Peter was added by me, in the early 2000's, because of finding various census, which could be for this George, under the given name of Peter. There is no evidence, yet, that his name was George Peter. Britain-141 14:23, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

-- A Will, which was mentioned as a part of the money settlement, is not found yet.^[7]

-- There is/was a Strasburg, Virginia, too. ^[8]
