Maxwell Washburn Long was born in October 16, 1878 in Waverly, Massachusetts. He was the son of George Howard Long and Isabel Maxwell Washburn.[1][2]

Maxwell participated in the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. He won gold in the 400 meter dash[3][4]
