Biography

Robert Ferguson was born circa 1735. At the time of the American Revolutionary War, Robert was living in Tryon county, which included land of both modern day North and South Carolina. Lincoln county, North Carolina was formed in 1779 from the eastern part of Tryon County, which had been settled by Europeans in the mid-18th Century. During the Revolutionary War, Robert served as a Juror and also furnished supplies, in support of the Patriots. ^[1]

Robert Ferguson is honored for his Civil Service by the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor #A039304. DAR records indicate that he was twice married. His first wife was Elizabeth Wylley and his second was Isabel (?nee) Barr. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his son, John Ferguson, who married Elizabeth (?nee) and James Ferguson, who married Sarah Barnett. ^[2]

Researchers Notes

Although the bio on his Find A Grave memorial refers to him as "Robert Ferguson," it can be found under the spelling of "Robert Furguson." It gives his death place as Bessemer City, Gaston county, North Carolina, which was established, December 21, 1846. ^[3]
