Biography

Jeremiah/Jeremy Blinman, the son of Richard Blinman and his wife Mary, was born on July 20, 1642 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.^[1][2]

Residency in New London

Jeremiah continued to live in New London for several years after his father returned to England in 1659. According to Caulkins, his name occurs in the records for several years after that date, including in a 1663 action of debt by Jeremiah against John Raymond.^[3]

Probable Illegitimate Child: Sarah Tinker

On February 1663/4, Alice Tinker, the widow of John Tinker, who died in 1662, was examined in court "upon suspicion that she was with childe."^[4] On May 31, 1664, she acknowledged that she was with child and said it was by Jeremiah Blinman.^[4] Jeremiah was apparently fined £5 for being the suspected father.^[3] Alice gave birth to a daughter named Sarah, who was called Sarah Tinker, and later married Jonathan Hudson and had many descendants.^[5] Although Henry Hoff, in his 1995 NEHGR article on Sarah Tinker, stated that Sarah was probably the daughter of Jeremiah Blinman,^[5] it seems that Alice may have had several lovers, so that Jeremiah's parentage of Sarah is uncertain. Lieut. Samuel Smith of New London supposedly fled to Virginia because he thought he might have been the father.^[4]

Jeremiah married Elizabeth Bartlett in Westleigh by Bideford, Devonshire on April 27, 1670.^[6][7][8]

Jeremiah and, presumably, Elizabeth had the following children:

1. Jeremi, b. August 12, 1679 in South Moulton, Devonshire^[9]
2. William, b. January 27, 1681 in South Moulton, Devonshire^[10]
3. Richard, b. May 27, 1683 in South Moulton, Devonshire^[11]

Will; Death; Estate

Jeremiah probably died in 1702, as the will of Jeremiah Blinman of South Moulton, Devonshire was probated in 1702 at the Court of the Archdeaconry of Barnstaple.^[12]
