Biography

Anne Dupuis was born around 1738 lime. Her parents were Germain Dupuis and Marie Granger.

On 5 September 1755, her father Germain was imprisoned along with hundreds of other Acadian men at the St. Charles des Mines church in Grand Pré. On a list of prisoners, he was said to live in the village Dupuis with 3 daughters (spouses were not included on the list), and owned 6 bullocks, 6 cows, 6 young cattle, 44 sheep, 25 hogs, and 4 horses. His property and livestock became forfeit to the crown, and his family was required to prepare for deportation within 30 days.[1] Germain, Marie and their daughters Marie-Marguerite, Anne and Marie-Madeleine were deported to Massachusetts between 13 and 20 October 1755. [2]

She married Dominique Thibodeau in exile in 1761. [2]. Their marriage was confirmed le 12 juillet 1767 à L'Assomption.

Anne, Dominique and their daughter were listed in a 1763 census in Massachusetts.[4]

After the end of the Seven Years' War in 1763, the Acadians detained in the Anglo-American colonies were finally free to leave. On 1 March 1765, James Murray, Governor of the Province of Quebec, issued a proclamation offering free land to new immigrants. Between 1765 and 1775, 1306 Acadians deported to New England immigrated to Quebec. In May 1767 they emigrated to the Province of Quebec aboard the schooner Abigail that left Boston around 17 May 1767 and docked on 18 June 1767 at the port of Quebec. Travelling with them were their children Elisabeth (age 5), Osithe (age 2), Jean-Baptiste Thibodeau (Dominique's father age 67) and Paul Thibodeau (Dominique's brother age 17). [5] They settled in Saint-Jacques-de-l'Achigan.
