Karl Daniel Wiggins is named for his great uncle Karl Richard Rawlinson (who died of a brain tumor in August 1973, two months before he was born), and for his father Daniel Braxton Wiggins, Jr. Daniel is a common name in the Wiggins family.
Karl Daniel Wiggins was born at 7:55 AM on October 12, 1973 at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He weighed 7 lbs, 13 oz at birth. He lived in Tuscaloosa with his parents Margaret and Dan from October 1973 to October 1975. For the next year, the family lived in Columbus, Georgia. In October 1976, they moved back to Tuscaloosa, where they stayed for almost two years, before moving to Opelika, Alabama in August 1978.
Karl and his family lived in Opelika until January 1980, when they moved to Auburn for six months. In May, they moved to Tallassee, Alabama, and stayed there until Karl graduated from high school.
Karl attended East Tallassee Elementary School starting in August 1980, completing first and second grades there. He spent two years at Tallassee Elementary (at the High School complex), then attended Southside Middle School for three years for fifth through seventh grades. In August 1988, he moved up to the high school to start eighth grade. Karl graduated from Tallassee High School on May 29, 1992. He served as senior class president, editor of the Talla-Hi News newspaper, president of the National Honor Society and president of the French Club. After graduating with honors, he received a full scholarship to the University of Alabama.
In May 1997, Karl graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from UA.
Karl has two siblings: a brother (Matt) born in April 1975 and a sister (Lyn) born in April 1977. He met his wife Leslie Johnson while attending an event at Coaling Baptist Church, Coaling, Alabama while still in high school. Their first date was a few years later on October 28, 1993. After five years of dating, they got married on May 30, 1998.
Karl and Leslie have four children: Hannah (born 1999), Benjamin (b. 2000), Noah (b. 2001) and Abbey (b. 2003).
Karl's professional career is in Information technology. He has worked at three different full-time jobs since graduation: Syscon Computers, as a Technical Representative, from January 1997 to April 1998; MAP Quality Engineering from April 1998 to March 2000 as a IS/Project Manager; and Randall Publishing/Randall-Reilly from March 2000 to Present, as DBA (2000-2004) and then Director of IT Infrastructure & Operations (2004-2020) and VP of IT (Present).
