Biography

Maredudd ap Ieuan who left Eifionydd to settle on wastelands in Nant Conwy, and who purchased Gwydir from a descendant of Hywel Coetmor

Father: Ieuan ap Robert ap Maredudd (1437-1468)^[2]

Mother: Catrin ferch Rhys^[3]

Born before 1469^[4]

his father "died of the plague at Gesail Gyfarch in 1468."^[2]

Maredudd ap Robert married three times and had many children by his wives and by four known mistresses.^[6]

His first wife was Alice ferch Gwilym^[6] ap Gruffydd ap Robin of Cochwillan.^[1] She was the mother of his heir, John (Wyn) ap Maredudd (d 9 July 1559).^[2] He married Alice Robin, daughter of Gwilym ap Gruffudd ap Robin, in 2006 [sic] (1506?).^[5]

His second wife was Gwenhwyfar ferch Gruffudd ap Hywel y Farf of Treiorwerth.^[7]

His third wife was "Margaret, daughter of Morris ap John ap Meredydd, of Clenennau, Penmorfa, and by her . . . was the father of Humphrey Wynn of Cesail Gyfarch."^[8]

Maredudd's son John "succeeded to his father's lands at Gwydir, Dolwyddelan, and Llanfrothen"^[2] in 1525.^[1]
