Biography

Elizabeth was born about 1831 the daughter of Isaac Gifford and [[Stapleton-1295|Jane (Stapleton) Gifford, and she was christened on the 12th June 1831 in Bristol, Gloucestershire.[1]

In 1851 she was visiting the house of her sister, Jane Jenkins, in Cardiff. She was listed as an annuitant. [2] In 1857 she married William Francis in Cardiff. [3] In 1861 they lived at 40 Frederick Street with their 1 year old daughter, Caroline Gifford. William was a Boot Maker. [4]

In 1871 they lived in Union Street, sharing number 39 with another family. The couple now had 5 children. 4 girls and a boy. [5] They had another daughter in 1881. [6] and sadly their son William Henry died later that year. By 1891 Elizabeth was widowed and was living in Cardiff with daughters Elizabeth Ann and granddaughter Florence. She was 'Living on Own Means'. [7] 10 years later, at the age of 70, she was living in Brook Street with her 10 year old grand daughter Florence. [8]

There are a number of possible death dates for Elizabeth Francis b, 1831 although we can rule out one in 1907 in Camarthen [9]as the probate record states she was a spinster in the lunatic Asylum. There is another death in 1903 in Pontypridd [10] There is only 1 death in Cardiff in 1903 but she is listed as being 62. [11] possibly tracing the location of her children would help.
