Biography

Charlotte was baptised in Bristol on 19 Jun 1825. Her parents were Isaac and Jane. Isaac was a Labourer. Her family moved to Cardiff from Bristol.[1]

In 1846 she married John William George in Cardiff. [2] and in 1851 she lived in Great Frederick Street, Cardiff with husband (John) William, an engine fitter and young son William Henry. [3] In 1861 she lived with her mother Jane, children Sarah and John and was a monthly nurse. Her husband was not listed there. [4]

10 years later in 1871 the couple had another son, Frank aged 4, as well as older son John who also still lived with them. [5] John William died aged 61 in 1875. [6]

In 1881 Charlotte is the Inn Keeper of The Ship Inn, Barry with a number of family members, son Frank (out of employ, aged 14), niece Lucy Gifford, scholar and grandson Henry Hughes. [7]

Charlotte died on 11 August 1888. Her probate record reveals she had moved from the Ship in Barry to the Prince of Wales in Adam Street, Cardiff. She left an estate of just over £3,744 administered by son William Henry and her nephew Thomas Jenkins. [8]
