MATHIEU ROUX or ROUSSE Status : Immigrant

Birth : circa 1716 St-Clement, St-Clement-sous-Pradelles, hameau Le Mazel, ev. Viviers, Languedoc (auj. Pradelles, ar. Le Puy, Haute-Loire)[1]

son of Antoine Roux and Jeanne Chevalier per his marriage record.

He was a sergeant in the compagnie de Beauclaire in the régiment de la Sarre which came to New France, the last of the soldiers arriving by May 31st 1756. They took part in many of the campaigns in the War of Conquest (aka 7 years war, French and Indian war)[2]. His enlistment obviously finished before the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759, since he married in January 1758 and the marriage record does state that a certificate of liberty was on hand.

Marriage
On 30 January 1758 in St-Joseph church of Rivière-des-Prairies, after publication of 3 bans, Marie Madeleine Lauzon, daughter of the late Paul Lauzon and Marie Josephe Chartran, married Mathieu Roux, son of the late Antoine Roux and of Jeanne Chevalier, of the parish of St-Clément, St-Vivier diocese, in France, sergeant of the company de Beaudaire (Beauclaire?) in the regiment de la Sarre.[3][4][5][6]

Death
He is present at the marriage of his son Jean Louis on 29 Sept 1783 in Berthier-en-Haut. He is listed deceased on the marriage of his daughter Marie Reine on 6 Nov 1797 in St-Paul-de-Lavaltrie. (Note: St-Paul-de-Lavaltrie parish was only established in 1786). On the marriage of his daughter Marie Madeleine on 13 May 1793 in Pointe-aux-Trembles de Montréal he is not cited as deceased, but is also not cited as present.[7] No funeral has been identifed as his, death date above has been left as is but marked uncertain.
