Biography
Ray Hawkes spent 30 years working in the IT industry and is now retired. He enjoys the intellectual challenge of trying to discover the histories of family members long past from the available records and learning about the histories of the places where they lived and worked.

My main suggestion for the project is to focus on making big improvements to the many truly bad profiles that were uploaded in the early days and have never been improved instead of making small pedantic changes to profiles that are generally pretty good. I have often seen changes where someone in the project has added "United Kingdom" to the end of a place name or changed a Findagrave macro to a longer citation and I wonder why so much time is being wasted on these things when there are so many profiles that really need proper research and bio writing.

Thank you for getting back to me. It does not matter is you cannot do a great deal. Every little bit helps.
I do agree with you that it would be good if everyone worked to really improve profiles, but we cannot make them do it. All we can do is encourage them. Most of the teams in the England Project are aimed at making profiles better and its what our gedcom team does all the time. At present we are in the process of forming an Unknowns Team with the aim of finding the names of the many Unknowns on WikiTree and trying to source them better and write biographies.

I have just been looking at the Westwood branch of your family. I am convinced that they are somehow related to the Westwood's that appear in my husbands line. Unfortunately I cannot find any evidence to make a proper link. Please have a look at the profile of Thomas Corbett. I think Mary, the mother of Timothy Westwood might be the sister of Thomas Westwood. I cannot find any proof. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for getting in touch. It is an interesting theory, but the reason I haven't added Mary Westwood to WikiTree is I know nothing definite about her. She was clearly residing at Tipton in 1807 when her son was baptised but that is all we know. Assuming she was aged between 17 and 27 when he was baptised that means she was born between 1780 and 1790. There were at least 14 Mary Westwoods baptised in Staffordshire not far from Tipton between 1780 and 1790 (none in Tipton) and she could be any of them. By the way, in the profile for your Thomas Westwood you state he was born in 1780 but you don't know that. He married in 1805 and 25 is a reasonable estimate of age at marriage but he could have been born any time between 1760 and 1788. There are no baptisms of a Thomas Westwood at Tipton in that period but there were more than 15 in other nearby Staffordshire parishes and he could be any of those. Unfortunately Westwood is a common name in that part of Staffordshire and it is very difficult to separate the families before the 1820s.

You have the wrong 1901 census return for your Thomas Corbett son of Luke. In the 1901 census he was still living at home with his parents. You are correct that his grandmother was a Westwood but I cannot find a connection to my Westwoods. The Thomas Corbett found in the 1901 census with Cornelius Westwood was born in 1889 to Thomas Corbett and Harriet Grice but I haven't yet worked out how they are connected to my Westwoods.
