Biography

Amelia was the eldest daughter of Sir Charles Asgill. Her father was a successful merchant banker who gained a knighthood in 22 November 1752, five years before Amelia was born. The year she was born (1757), her father became the Lord Mayor of London. Her father was created 1st Baronet Asgill, of London, on 16 April 1761 when she was four years old. (see Wikipedia Amelia's mother was Sir Charles' second wife Sarah Theresa Pratviel, daughter of London merchant Daniel Pratviel (a Huguenot emigre).

Amelia and Robert Colvile were married by Special Licence in 1786- Special licence at the house of Sir Charles Asgill, Bt, in Postman Square. Amelia's husband's family, the Colvile family, was an old one, with pedigree back to William the Conqueror. Amelia's father being very wealthy, she likely brought an injection of cash and property to her husband's family.

The couple had four sons.
