David Lewis Carter Sr. was born in 1752 in Province of New Jersey, son of Solomon Carter (1735–1802) and Elizabeth (Hutchinson) Carter (~1735–1780).

David had a brother, William Carter (~1756 – October 21 1815).

David married Mehitable (Cobb) Carter (born on March 12, 1756 in Province of Georgia; daughter of Abel Cobb and Sarah (Van Winkle) Cobb). Their known children were:

David died on December 16, 1849 in Franklin, Georgia, United States, aged 96. He was buried in New Harmony Methodist Church Cemetery, Reed Creek, Hart County, Georgia.[1]
