I was placed up for adoption in 1958 in Rowan County, North Carolina and my biological parents are unknown. I have taken a DNA test from Ancesry.com and have found that I may have a link to Benjamin Price Stacks. Other family names which keep occurring in my DNA research are Hodge, Hodges, and Shelton.
Here is a section of my families background from the adoption agency. Please keep in mind that this background was written in 1958.
Mother’s Background: She was attractive and was 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed 126 pounds with brown eyes, brown eyes, brown hair and medium complexion. In 1958 the birth mother was 24 years of age (born 1934?), she had a 11th-grade education. She was divorced and already had two sons ages 5 and 6 years of age from that marriage. The oldest son had blue eyes, and blond hair and the youngest son had brown eyes and brown hair. She worked as a supervisor at a manufacturing plant. She enjoyed music.
Her father had a 7th-grade education and worked as a driller for an oil company. Her birth mother had a 9th-grade education. She was an only child. She had red measles at age 7 and mumps at age 11. Her father died at age of 47 due to cancer. Her paternal grandfather died in his 50’s due to a stomach ailment and her paternal grandmother died in her 60’s of gout. The birth mother’s maternal grandmother died at age of 69 due to a heart attack. Her maternal grandfather was still living and in good health at the age of 77.
Father’s Background: My birth father was thought to be 24 years of age and a high school graduate. He had some military experience with U.S. Navy and worked in a factory. His parents owned a chicken hatchery and the majority of his 11 siblings were employed in the family business. The birth father was 5’11” tall with blonde hair, blue eyes and he weighed 180 pounds and had a fair complexion. The birth father’s and his parents were thought to be in good health. The birth father’s family was described as wealthy.
