Chapter K JERG REIDENAUER - (on the Ship, “Boston” 1764). Known facts: 1772 - A George Ridenhower was listed on the Taxables List for Heidelberg Twp., Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, under the title, “Inmates” (meaning renters). 1775 - George Rightenour, of Heidelberg Twp., was one of 20 men listed as privates in the Lancaster Company Volunteer Soldiers. 1777 & 1778 - George Ridenauer was on the Taxables List (with no land), Heidelberg Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. This is the last record found for George Reitenauer there. A. S. Brendle, in his book, A Brief History of Schaefferstown, stated that the George Reitenauer, of Heidelberg Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa., was the Jerg Reidenauer, who was an immigrant on the Ship, Boston, 1764. The accuracy of this is unknown; but the known facts do not contradict the theory. The George Ridenauer of Heidelburg Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. may have been connected to the George Reitenauer who came to Frederick Co., Maryland by 1780 (with connections to Lancaster Co., Pa.). There are baptismal records, (in 1780 and 1782), for two sons of a George Reitenauer and wife, Elizabeth. This George cannot be identified as belonging to other lines in the area.

Wilson Miles Cary made the charts Nona Harwell sent me concerning the Rev War soldier George Ridenour. He is the Miles Cary who interviewed Jacob Ridenour in 1899. Mr. Cary was an attorney from Baltimore Maryland. He was a member of Genealogical Committee - Oral history stated George had a son named George (Jr) who died young and unmarried. Olive Gallentine's booklet information states Jacob Gallentine married Elizabeth Snyder, widow of George Ritenour. George (Jr) did die young but he was married to Elizabeth Snyder. Adam Ridenour's birth information was not given in the booklet and no record has been found. The 1780 and 1782 records mentioned above support the timeframe of George (Jr) dying prior to 1783 when Elizabeth would have married Jacob Gallentine and had Jacob Gallentine Jr in 1784.
