Biography

Wylie Louis Collins. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] L. Collins. [11], the youngest of Dexter Collins and Annie McKittrick three sons, was born on March 11, 1899[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22] 1899 Nova Scotia, Canada. [23].

He married Louise Wilkins Coffin of Nantucket, Massachusetts on March 3, 1933.[24] They had two children, Nancy Collins and Dexter Collins. Wylie had his elementary education in the little two roomed wooden schoolhouse on Belcher Street, Port Williams, where his mother, Annie McKittrick, had been teaching school when she first met his father Dexter Samuel Collins. Later he went to high school in Wolfville, riding his bicycle in the fall and driving a horse and carriage or a sleigh when weather and roads were bad in fall and winter. After graduating from high school, he attended Acadia University, taking his B.A. in 1921 and his M.A. a year later. He became interested in a medical career; and while taking his M.A., took supplementary study with a local doctor. Wylie entered Harvard Medical School in the fall of 1922 and graduated in 1926. He interned later in the Boston Lying-In Hospital in obstetrics and surgery at the Boston City Hospital. After finishing his internships in the Boston Hospitals, Wylie began practicing in Nantucket where he met and married Louise Wilkins Coffin, a member of one of the oldest Nantucket families. Wylie's long lifetime of surgery, obstetrics, and general practice continued until he finally retired at the age of 81.

Wylie died on 29 OCT 1991 at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Nantucket, MA after suffering from an accidental head trauma from a fall. Wylie was healthy and active up until his death. [25][26][27][28][29]
