Biography

When Obadiah (Obed) Blakesley was born on August 29, 1754, in Waterbury, Connecticut, his father, John, was 30 and his mother, Olive, was 26. He married Sarah Gilbert and they had one son together. He also had at least one child with Mary Murphy. He died on February 4, 1825, in Castle Creek, New York, at the age of 70, and was buried in Binghamton, New York.

There appears to be an “Obed Blakeslee” who was b. 1748 (New Haven), and this is the one I believe m. 1773 (North Haven) Sarah Gilbert and d. 1777 (New Haven), who had a son Obed b. 1777 (North Haven). If so, the DAR Lineage Books, vol. 111, p. 123 confuses this Obed (1748- ) with our Obed (1754-1825). Does anyone have definitive evidence for either marriage?
