Biography

Richard Broun 6th Bt is a member of Clan Broun.

Richard was born in 1729. He was the 1st son of James Broun, tenant in Hume Castle, in the Parish of Stichill, Berwickshire, and Alison Brodie, daughter of William Brodie. [1] As a direct descendent of George Broun, of Thornydike, he became heir to the Baronetcy in 1776 on the death of Alexander Broun.

He had joined the church and was, in his early career, Minister of Bute, Kingarth, and (finally) of Lochmaben.

In 1776, he entered his pedigree at the Lyon office, but never assumed the Baronetcy.

He died 13 Dec 1781.

Family

He married, 1765, Robina, daughter of Col. Hugh Macbride, of Beadland, Ayrshire. She died a widow on 5 Feb. 1819. [2] They had:

  • Sir James Broun, of Mayfield, later 7th Bart of Colstoun. Born 12/03/1768, died 30/11/1844. He married, firstly, on 31/07/1798, Marion Henderson (she died 20/08/1825), daughter of Robert Henderson of Cloughheads; married secondly, 29/04/1835, Janet Watson (she died 17/06/1868), daughter of R. Watson of Edinburgh.
  • William Broun, of Newmains, born c. 1770, died 1831. He married Nancy Mainguy, daughter of Colonel Peter Mainguy of Guernsey.

Richard was born about 1740.
