Biography

This profile is part of the Ogle Name Study.

Anderson was the second of three sons born to James Ogle and Catherine Wilkes Golden, but he had five half brothers and five half sisters from his father's first marriage and probably some from his mother's first marriage.

Anderson and his younger brother Canaan were educated. When Anderson was 22 years old, the 1850 census records reports that they had both attended school within the last year. It is assumed that was college because in a later census he calls himself a lawyer, and also because it is known that he could read his new testament in Greek.

In 1912, A.J. broke his hip and went to stay with his daughter, Julia Pace, while he recuperated. On of Julia's daughters, Myrtle Pace, was about 12 years old at the time, and she remembers her grandfather lying on the bed and tracing his lineage back to Pocahontas, the Indian Princess, wife of John Rolfe. Myrtle was old enough to appreciate what he was doing but she did not remember any of the details. The Ogle Family Society says that the line would have to go through one of the wives. Lorene Hansen , a daughter of Myrtle Pace is trying to trace the family line to Pocahontas.

There is evidence of another Anderson Ogle. he was in the 1836 census for Des Moines County Iowa. He has three males and three females in the household in that year, so obviously cannot be our Anderson.
