Thomas Swymmer Champneys was born to Sir Thomas Champneys, 1st Baronet Champneys of Orchardleigh, Somerset and Caroline Ann Cox on 31 May 1769, in the parish of St George Hanover Square, Westminster, Middlesex, England. ^[1]

Thomas married Charlotte Margaret Mostyn, daughter of Sir Roger Mostyn and Margaret Wynne, on April 21, 1792 at St Georges, Hanover Square, London.

On the death of his father he succeeded to the Baronetcy of of Orchardleigh, Somerset on 2 July 1821. In 1831 he took the name of Mostyn before that of Champneys on inheriting the estates of his wife's brother, Sir Thomas Mostyn, 6th Baronet [1660], who died d.s.p. on April 7, 1831

Thomas and Charlotte did not have any children.

He died, intestate on November 21, 1839 at Orchardleigh and the Baronetcy became extinct. He was buried on November 30, 1839 at Orchardleigh.

His estate was administered in December of 1840.

Research Notes

The tradition in Somersetshire, is, that this family has been seated at Orchardley, near Frome- Selwood, in that county, from the time of the Norman conquest.

1821-1839 Sir Thomas Symmer Champneys, afterwards, since 1831, Mostyn-Champneys, Baronet [1767], of Orchardleigh, only s. and h. by 1st wife, b. 21 May 1769; suc. to the Baronetcy, 2 July 1821; took the name of Mostyn before that of Champneys on, ceeding to the estates of his wife's brother, Sir Thomas Mostyn, 6th Baronet [1660], who d. s.p. 7 Apr 1831. He m. 21 April 1792, at St. Geo., Han. sq., Charlotte Margaret, 2d da. of Sir Roger Mostyn, 5th Baronet [1660], of Mostyn, by Margaret, da. and h. of the Rev. Hugh Wynne. He d. s.p. 21 Nov. 1839, at Orchardleigh, aged 70, when the Baronetcy became extinct. Admon. Dec. 1840. His widow d. 12 Dec. 1845, at Gloddaeth, near Conway, aged 78. Will pr. Jan 1846.
