Hello Cherly,

I have spent 2 weeks trying to figure out how this got to me and I have tried many ways to contact WikiTree, hoping to get to a human being, verbally....obviously, this doesn't work. ...so I am writing to you since you made contact ages ago.

This email came through my personal email account, identified as the following " The following was sent via the private messaging system on WikiTree.com." YES INDEED, I know this person, she is one of my sisters. She does NO genealogy, hadn't ever heard of WikiTree and said she was in google. She has NO interest in WikiTree nor do I want to add her to my tree (without permission as she is living, as are my other sisters). And, she said that she had no idea why she might have been "logged in to WT", having absolutely NO knowledge that it even existed! She only lives 5 blocks away so this seems crazy, to me.

Here is the message that came to me: Hey, Ver... This format is interesting. Got a text from (B) regarding upcoming quilt meeting, and the group received a donated 1930s quilt by (N). Since we have the "Reed" name in our tree, could this be any relation? Just spelled differently? Anyway, someone is trying to prepare it for display at the Fair in October. Unfortunately, it is being repaired by machine (yuk!). I will forward (B)'s email to you. The sender, Patricia Flint Hill [email address removed] , was not logged-in to WikiTree. If the message looks like bulk e-mail spam, please forward it to [email address removed] right away. The sender was on this profile page when they sent the message: https://www.WikiTree.com/wiki/Flint-3135 If Patricia Flint Hill is a family member add them to WikiTree. If they're a friend or fellow genealogist add them as an unrelated person.

MY concern and questoin is, I guess, how the heck does a personal email get crossed with WikiTree by someone who knows nothing about it? Can any person contact me this way? This is of great concern because I thought WT was more private/personal. I have talked about this email with my DAR/DNA group and they are all baffled too, thinking that we couldn't just be contacted by any Tom, Dick or Harry.

Thanks for anything you can tell me about this situation. As you can see, I am not the most active WT member but do enjoy it.

Hi Verona

Thank you for signing the Honor Code. I hope you enjoy WikiTree as much as I have when I posted my ancestors.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Take care

Saw the birth date for Ebenezer Norton that is after death date. Maybe this source for an earlier birth date belongs to your Ebenezer? "Massachusetts Births and Christenings, 1639-1915", database, FamilySearch (link : 15 January 2020), Ebenezer Norton, 1777.

Thank you, yes, I see that I have made an error. It seems as though I have crossed my paternal and maternal lines with this entry but skipped a generation! Ebenezer Norton (1777-), whom you mention, was the brother of my direct line, his sister, Sarah Bassett Norton (1767-1833).

I have reached out to members , twice, who connect to my direct lines, and have received no response. I find WikiTree very difficult to navigate and will have to reach out for help from a different direction. Hopefully I can address this quickly and straighten it out. Thank you for thumping me on the head! V. F.

Yes, I am a decendent of both Thomas and William of Selem in the 1600's. The two lines did not merge again until the late 1800 when my grand father was born.

One of my great uncles had a copy of the book Flint Family History The Adventuresome Seven. But I have not seen it. My line includes Robert the Pioneer Flint. I have one line to the Mayflower so far. I also have 1 so far to Jamestown. I have thought about applying to DAR.

It is so good to welcome another Flint to the family tree. I don't know how much research you have done on the Flints, but be very careful in editing the tree. I come from the Brothers (Yes both brothers) in Salem, , Massachusetts Bay. My group had a habit of naming sons after fathers, and not adding the Jr or Sr to the name. They also seemed to have a small selections of names to choose from because the same names popped up over and over. They married many times and didn't record a lot of deathes.

Thank you for making contact with me. At this time I am still struggling with what and how to do wikitree. My DAR Chapter has a small DNA group which has been meeting for a few years and it is wonderful. 2 of the women have wikitrees so I decided to join also.

When you mention "Brothers", do you mean Thomas Flint and William Flint? At first i thought you were referring to the surname "Brothers", of whom I presently know some. I have been researching my family genealogy since 1985 (with my mother before she passed in 1999). I am the photo album keeper and have Flint (as well as some from other family lines) albums with photos from the 1800s, mostly from Maine. I have 14 Mayflower lines, 11 DAR lines and can go back to Charlemagne. I think the first thing I must master is how to navigate in wiki before I think about anything else, or at least start a tree??? I often find these message boards a bit daunting. Are you familiar with the 2 volumes of "Flint Family History of the Adventuresome Seven", by Flint and Flint? They were authored by a distant cousin, Edward and is wife Gwen, with whom I was fortunate to have a few years of interaction. V.Flint

Hello Cheryl,

As you can see, I do need some help with something I have entered which now needs to be corrected and/or totally replaced. I first need to delete an incorrect parent with a correct parent. I do believe, when I originally began to enter this generation, there was already and entry in WikiTree. It seems that I found the individual I wanted but didn't get the correct ID number in place to join the family generations to me. I do find WikiTree quite a challenge but don't want to give up. I also need to adopt a maternal great-grandmother whose entire family, siblings and all, are listed, and there she sits needing to be adopted, even tho' she is named as a sibling! Thanks for anything you can do to help.
