Amy Smith is a part of US Black heritage.
Amy was enslaved by James Webb Smith in Jackson County, Tennessee, along with her daughter Tempy and grandchildren Gloster, Sydney, Lawson, and Webb.
James wrote his will on 20 February 1854 and died on 22 May 1856. He named 71 enslaved people, including "Old Amy" who was given to James's wife Mary (Webb) Smith along with her grandson Gloster, “that Gloster may be kept with his grandmother while she lives, to wait on her now very old and infirm."
