Madog is recorded as the son of Elise ap Iorwerth and his wife Annes ferch Daydd.[1]
He was recorded in Peniarth MS 127, written about 1510, as "Mad[og] ap Elisse ap I[orwerth] ap Ywain Broguntyn ..."[2]
He did homage to Edward of Carnarvon in 1301.[1]
He and his nephew Gruffudd ap Dafydd did fealty to Edward, the Black Prince, on his accession to the Principallty of Wales in 1343. The Roll of Fealty and Presentnents records "Fidelitas Baronum ... Griffith ap David ap Elise, Madoc ap Elise Tag Madoc".[3]
