Biography

Edmund Whitfield was born 9 December 1793 at White Hall, Wayne County, North Carolina. He was the son of Needham Whitfield.^[1] He died 13 September 1867 in Aberdeen, Monroe, Mississippi.

Marriages and Children

First Marriage

He was first married 8 March 1816 to Susan Matilda Croom.^[1] They had a daughter

1. Susan Croom Whitfield, died in infancy.

Second Marriage

After Susan's death, Edmund was married, 23 January 1821, in Clinton, North Carolina, to Penelope Clinton Holmes.^[1] They had the following known children:

3. Edmund Richard Whitfield
4. Hardy Holmes Whitfield
5. James Alexander Whitfield
6. Mary Ann Holmes Whitfield

Residence

In the 1820 and 1830 Censuses, he was recorded living in Wayne County, North Carolina, where all of his children were born.^[2][3]

About 1840, Edmund and his brother Needham Whitfield moved to Aberdeen, Monroe, Mississippi, where he lived until his death on 13 September 1867.
