https://www.genealogy.com/ftm/c/o/e/Dawn-M-Coen/FILE/0003page.html Descendants of John Cain/Kain, Sr.
John KAIN, Sr. was born between 1740 and 1750 in Ireland, according to Pennsylvania history books. Research of Allegheny and Beaver County Censuses indicates that John was 80 to 90 years old in 1830. Thus, his birth date can only be estimated by a ten year span. John's parents are unknown as of this writing.
Jordan's "Genealogical and Personal History of Beaver County, PA", page 991 mentions a tailor named John Kain, born in Ireland, came to this country at a very early date bringing his unnamed wife and family with him. It is a matter of uncertainty whether or not some of his children were born in America. (note: There is a record that,George, the 2nd child, was born in Mechanicsburg, PA.)
As one researcher notes, "Why would a tailor settle in the wilderness?" Was John really a tanner, and not a tailor? John's grandsons were involved in the tannery business. Thomas (son of James), Joseph (son of Samuel) and another unnamed grandson.
John Kain, Sr. settled at the Service Creek Church and Raccoon Creek area in Moon Township, near Hookstown, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He purchased the land from John Bryan in 1793, which he farmed, later conveying land in 1806 to his sons, John Jr. and George 1st. This beautiful hamlet lies nestled between rolling hills, rock cliffs, and ancient creek beds. By 1800 county lines had changed, and John's homestead in Allegheny County became part of Beaver County.
John Kain's first wife was named Agnes and some researchers believe her maiden name may have been McClelland. She was the mother of all of his children.
He later married Judith Carnagey and Martha unknown.
It is assumed that John Kain was a veteran of the American Revolution. Information secured by a Mrs. Doud's for membership into the D.A.R. states: Crumrines History of Washington County, page 83 listed John KAIN as a member of the 8th PA. Reg't. Discharged 1781.
PA Archives, 3rd Series, Volume 26, page 575, listed John KAIN as a Warranter of 140 acres of land on 3 June, 1793 in Washington County.
John KAIN, Sr. died about age 88 or 89 in late 1837 to early 1838. No Pennsylvania death records were kept prior to 1893, except for a few between 1853 to 1855. A Beaver County Will Book, dated April 1834 and the recording date of John's will in late February, 1838 give us an approximate death date.
John is supposedly buried in the Service Creek Presbyterian Cemetery. The dates on his tombstone are incorrect and are the dates of a grandson, also named John Cain. Also buried in this cemetery is a son, George and George's wife, Mary and their daughter, Margaret, as well as a daughter, Nancy and her husband, Emanuel Twyford.
