Giuseppe Castro is born 31 December 1855 and baptized 1 January 1856 as Josephum. He is the son of Antonino Castro (sometimes Cascio) and Rosalia Marino. His godparents are Calogero di Miceli and Salvatrice Carrabba, a married couple.
His mother, Rosalia, dies in the home of Caterina Cusimano, her mother, on 4 June 1865. She is 30 years old.
His father, Antonino, remarries, to Rosalia's younger sister, Luigia (b. 1848), on 10 March 1867.
With his sister, Santa, Giuseppe stands as godparent to his half-sister, Francesca Paola, in 1878.
Giuseppe marries Maria Rosa di Carlo on 10 February 1885. His father is still living at this time. Maria Rosa is the sister of Giuseppe's brother-in-law, Vincenzo, married to Maria Santa in 1879.
Giuseppe and Maria Rosa have at least six children: Rosalia (1885), Maria Anna (1887), Antonino (1889), Luigia (1891), Giuseppe (1895), and Giovanna (1897).
Rosalia is born 3 November 1885 in Corleone, and baptized on the seventh. Her godparents are Gioachino di Carlo and Domenica Campagna, a married couple.[1] Rosalia is named after her paternal grandmother.
Maria Anna is born 24 May 1887.
Antonino is born on 29 April 1889 and baptized on 4 May.
Luigia is born 17 April 1891 and baptized ten days later, named after Giuseppe's aunt and stepmother. Her godparents are Antonino Rizzo and Maria Rosa Panepinto, a married couple.[2]
Giuseppe, the son, is born and baptized 11 March 1895, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Giuseppe Virga and Anna Lombardo,a married couple from Sancipirello.
Giovanna is born 20 March 1897 and baptized seven days later. Her godparents are Giuseppe and Marianna di Carlo, brother and sister.[3]
Maria Rosa and Giuseppe immigrate 4 June 1905 to New York.[4]
Rosalia marries Giovanni Coniglio, who is also from Corleone, on 24 April 1907 in Manhattan.[5]
According to notes made on Maria Anna and her husband's baptismal records, she and Francesco Perrino marry in New York on 17 September 1913.
Giuseppe, the father, has a younger half brother, Pietro, who marries his niece, the daughter of Vincenzo and Maria Santa, in New York the same year.
Giuseppe (Joseph), a retired storekeeper, dies at the age of 70 in the Bronx in April 1927. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery. His wife, Giovannina, survives him. His residence address is listed as 854 E 222nd Street.[6]
Maria Rosa dies there on 15 March 1946.[4]
