Lydia was born on 31 December 1827 in Oxford, Chenango, New York.[1] Her parents are unknown at this time.
Lydia married Daniel Wells sometime before 1845. In 1855, she is living in Oxford, Chenango, New York with her husband, who is a miller. She is taking care of her five children including an eight month old infant.[2] By 1860, she has given birth to two more children. Her oldest, Mary, is working as a domestic and Jane is missing from the household [3] Over the next five years, two more children are born. Lydia's daughter, Mary, has married but is still residing at home.[4] Over the next five years, Mary, Hosea, Theana, Samuel, and Daniel all move out to start their own families. Lydia has had two more children leaving her caring for the five youngest.[5] By 1875, Jesse, Catherine, and Margaret have moved out. Lydia is living with her husband and the two youngest children, Cora and William.[6]Her household becomes busy again when Daniel Jr returns home with his wife, Sarah, and their two children. Her husband, Daniel Sr, has retired from being a miller and is farming.[7] A year after the 1880 Census, her husband, Daniel Sr, passed away.
FindaGrave lists her birth place as Coventry, Chenango, New York. However Coventry was not formed until 1843. It was created from Oxford, Chenango, New York.[9]
