Biography

I grew up on a farm close to Cabool, MO. Married my high school sweetheart, Cleea Hamilton. We both graduated from Missouri State University. We have 3 great kids and 5 grandkids.

I went into business with an older brother in 1980 - Woodpro Cabinetry, which grew into national distribution. In 2019 the business was sold and I joined another cabinet manufacturer as their national sales manager.

Cleea has been a business owner: Carousel Unlimited until 2002, Cabool Florist and Gifts until 2019, and Cleea's At Home Market in West Plains, MO until she retired and closed it in 2020.

Cleea and I celebrated 45 years of marriage in Aug 2019 and are active with the Cabool Second Baptist Church. We are blessed.

I'm interested in finding info regarding my ancestors. I'm fortunate to trace back many on my mother's side (Douglas & Hoeck) and on my paternal grandmother Brown, but have hit a stumbling block with my Great Grandfather Jesse Walls.

Hi Glen, have you considered doing a Y DNA test? There's an active Wall project at Family Tree DNA.

Glen: My dad's cousin Cecil Hawkins was married to Nina Walls in Cabool, MO so I'm related to the Brown and Walls families in Texas County, MO through marriage. Jesse Walls parents were Thomas Walls 1802-1875 and wife Mary Jane (McDowell) Walls 1803-1845. I cannot find Thomas Walls parents. Richard W. Hawkins

Richard - that's awesome. We've had several members of our family who have searched and searched for Jesse Walls' parents and ancestry. Where did you find this info? Did you find anything specific about Jesse Walls' birth and death specifics? We've heard he was born in Salem, AR; and some reports was he died in Salem, MO. Not sure if either was correct. We also heard reports he died in a card game altercation in New Orleans; but that may have just been a rumor. Not sure if you heard this story, but my dad Lloyd Walls (Nina's brother), wrote that his dad Tom Walls had only this memory of his dad, Jesse Walls: Jesse gave Tom a ride on a big horse when Tom was around 5 years old and told Tom "good Luck". That he was leaving, and from that point on they never heard from Jesse. At least that was passed down to family. Tom's mom remarried and they lived with different people. Probably a really tough time on them. I was always proud that my Grandpa Tom Walls, coming from a really tough childhood, grew up to be a very productive and reputable farmer, raising a large family and teaching them hard work and good Christian morals. Thank Richard for your research and letting me know your findings. - glen [email address removed]
