Biography

Eli was born in 1840. He died in 1883 at the age of 41.

Parents: Eli Adams I 1793 - 1857 and Elizabeth (Shaw) Adams 1802 - 1894.

1) In 1860/1861 Eli went to Sumner, Illinois. He was a Postal Clerk for the O & M Railroad for 10 years. He was Township Clerk of Olney for a few years and was a member of the Methodist Church.

2) Farming did not appeal to Eli. He became a school teacher. He was a very attractive young man that had a flaming red full beard and hair, so red it sparkled. In the eyes of the young ladies of his acquaintance, he was really someone and his personality did win him many friends. He met beautiful Amanda Palmateer of Olney, Illinois, while she was visiting relatives in Palestine. Soon Oleny had a new school teacher and resident. They were married 6/20/1869. Later he became interested in politics. They had but one child, a daughter, Floro. Eli died when 43 years old in 1883 and was buried in Haven Hill Cemetery of Olney. Amanda later married John Elliot. She died 7/24/1922 and was buried beside her husband and daughter. Floro was born in 1871, married Charles Byer and died in 1900. They had no children. Written by Roy Clifford Adams, 1955.
