Biography

She was the mistress of William I “the Lion” King of Scotland, son of Henry of Scotland, Earl of Huntingdon and Northumberland and his wife Ada de Warenne.[1]

The Chronicle of Melrose refers to the daughter of Robert Avenal as the mother of King William's daughter Isabel.[2]

Name

The fact that her daughter was named Isabel has led to some confusion and the suggestion that she too is Isabel. This is unsubstantiated by any evidence.

Dates

There are no known dates of birth or death for this person. Knowing she was a mistress of William I “the Lion” King of Scotland and knowing that he was born in 1143,[3] it is probable that she was about his age or likely younger so we will speculate she was born after 1143.

A person can be both mistress and a wife whether the titles occur successively, simultaneously or independently. Wikitree and other genealogy sites don't provide space for lovers and casual relationships unless there is a child created from it.

However, the wording indicates that she was also the mistress of "his wife Ada de Warenne".

I wonder if it is correct to call her the king's mistress. He wasn't married to anyone else - what if it was a marriage recognized by local custom, but not by the Christian Church, which would leave him open to marry in the Church for political advantage.

So because this person and King William were not married and she was his mistress should their marriage information be edited?
