Biography

Charlotte was born about 1762.[1] She passed away in 1845.[2]

Deed made between Ann Bagnall of Hawkinstown County Meath widow of the first part, Brett Smith of Dublin Printer and stationer of the second part, Charlotte Bagnall, spinster daughter of Ann Bagnell of the third part, Henry Smith of Moullidillen county Meath and William Rothwell of Newtown County Dublin of the fourth part. A marriage was intended to be shortly had and solemnised between Brett and Charlotte. Charlotte was entitled to three hundred pound of which was then in her mother's hands and the rest in the hands of W. Rothwell. The deed details the disposition of the dowry with regard to succession. The writer of the memorial spelt the name Bagnell as well as Bagnall. The deed was lodged in the Registry of Deeds on 11 August, 1788. [3]

Henry of Mullaghdillon?

On 26 Mar, Charlotte relict of Brett Smith Esq. of this city, in the 83rd? year of her age.

According to the Mount Jerome office Charlotte is buried in area 13 of the cemetery. Her grave at this stage has not been identified. It seems to be most likely that her grave is in the Smith family plot. The Smith family plot however is in section 12 of Mount Jerome Cemetery according to the office. When looking at the map the area is very close to the border between area 12 and 13. There are a group of four graves close to the roadway, and in the area of section 12 near to the small laneway where some recent niches for cremation have been installed. If you face the laneway with the niches, the graves are on your right hand side. There are four Smith's graves in this group together in a row, three with headstones. There is also another Smith grave for a Richard Smith nearby. The fourth grave without a headstone, possibly Charlottes? seems to have some very faint writing on the top, but it was not readable.
