Biography

Joseph Bainbridge was born in 1856. Joseph was the child of George Bainbridge and Sarah Lowes.[1]

In the 1860 US census, Joseph (4) was living with his parents George Bainbridge (34) and Sarah Bainbridge (28) in New Diggings, Wisconsin, with his siblings Ralph (6), Jane (4), and Sarah (6 months).[1]

Joseph Bainbridge is believed to have married Elizabeth Pratt in Lafayette, Wisconsin, on 5 Apr 1882. This is consistent with the 1930 census, where it indicates he first married when he was 25 years old, or about 1881/1882.[2] Elizabeth died in 1884. Joseph then married Margaret in 1886, according to the 1900 US census.[3] She was probably Margaret Pratt, cousin of Elizabeth.

In the 1900 US census, Joseph Bainbridge (44) was married to Margaret Bainbridge (38, born about 1863 in Wisconsin). They were living in Elkhorn, Plymouth, Iowa, with their children Sarah E (13), Mary J (11), Bertha (8) and Joseph E (4).[3]

In the 1910 US census, Joseph Bainbridge (53) was widowed. He was living in Elkhorn, Iowa, with children Elizbeth (23), Bertha (18) and Joseph E (14), and with farm laborer Glenn Stevens (23).[4]

In the 1930 US census, Joe Bainbridge (73, born about 1857 in Wisconsin) was married to Margaret Bainbridge (56, born about 1874 in Illinois). (This is his third wife, a different Margaret.) They were living in Elkhorn, Iowa.[2] (Note that the census also indicates that his parents were from England, and he first married when he was about 25 years old.)

Joseph passed away in 1934.[5]
