Wouldn't it have been Angus in the 1300s, and for another 400 years after?
But I think the appropriate action should be to remove the placename entirely, as it is almost certainly impossible to find a reliable source for the birth place.
The Scotland Project follows the historical record for the counties and the time periods involved with each profile. Maybe this link might help with your misunderstanding. http://www.jaunay.com/Scotland_structure.html

Apologies in advance, Scotland Project team, if I'm ignorant of your naming style guide preferences & policies.

Nigel has given a good answer....and to add a little more. Because surnames were often originally derived from place names, the "de", which means "of", was often added...see link https://www.dictionary.com/browse/de- And "de Brechin", which is a place designation, would not be used in the profiles LNAB or Last Name At Birth. I hope that helps.
