Her birth year is more then likely 1893, not 1891 - as her parents were not married until 1892.
Biography
The early years
Etter Katherine Bates was born on the 15th of June 1893 in Tennessee to Amos Bates and Mary Bane.
Family Life
Etter would have 2 children:
- Simon Caphart(1909-1943)
- Willa Mae Caphart(1913-?)
She would marry Tim Caphart on the 7th of December 1914 in Montague, Texas[1]
They would divorce by 1920, and that year the children are listed with the last name of Caphart, even Wilma Mae's marriage record. We are left with a few scenerios, they were Tim Capharts and born before marriage, they were adopted or there is an unknown father for the 2 children.
By 1930 we see Etta with the last name now showing as McClain, inferring she remarried and the new husband passed away by then as she is listed as widowed.
Through the years

In 1920[3] we find her living with her parents, listed as divorced. The has Simon age 10, Willie age 7
In 1930[4] We see her daughter Willie has now married Donnie Mason and she is living with them under the last name of McClain.
Death
She died on the 7th of January 1941 and she would be buried in the Highland Cemetery[5]
