Francois René Benoit was born on 20 September 1778 at Le Coudray, Nantes, Bretagne (now Loire-Atlantique) France, son of Jean Charles Benoit and Anne Marie Haché. He was baptized in the parish of Saint Donatien in Nantes on 21 September 1778.[2][3]
On the list of the Acadian families "who want to go to Louisiana to establish themselves at the expense of His [Spanish] Catholic Majesty," dated Sep 1784 [4]
He Immigrated with his family to New Orleans arriving in November 1795 aboard "L'Amitié.[5]
