Biography

JEAN CHARLES BENOIST is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Plaque 10 Right L'Amitie. Listed with him is his spouse Marie Hache and four children: Jean Marie, Paul Frederic; Francois Renne and Sophie Rennee.^[1]

Francois René Benoit was born on 20 September 1778 at Le Coudray, Nantes, Bretagne (now Loire-Atlantique) France, son of Jean Charles Benoit and Anne Marie Haché. He was baptized in the parish of Saint Donatien in Nantes on 21 September 1778.^[2][3]

On the list of the Acadian families "who want to go to Louisiana to establish themselves at the expense of His [Spanish] Catholic Majesty," dated Sep 1784 ^[4]
